Leatherheads: DVD Edition

When I saw the movie Leatherheads back in April, at the theater, I, like many upstate citizens, were looking for their friends and family member who had worked as extras on the filming that took place here in the upstate. But I didn't see our friend in the movie. But with the fall release of the DVD, I can now write my review.

Not since the onscreen alchemy of toughness and tenderness of James Cagney in, Humphrey Bogart's "Rick" in Casablanca Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront , Paul Newman in Cold Hand Luke. or DeNiro in Taxi Driver has an actor commanded the screen. Not since James Dean, Dustin Hoffman in Mrs. Robinson, or Sean Penn's "Spiccoli" has there been such a rebel for which you rooted.

At 21 minutes and 18 seconds into this film, if you freeze the frame, and zoom in, you will see, for one and a half seconds, Don Massey, the greatest actor of our time. It is the greatest moment in film history

A few years ago in the Winter edition of The Gazette I listed my favorite Christmas movies or Christmas episodes for television series. One such movie that made the list was TJ, a made for TV movie that aired in 1970.

Since that article first ran I have gotten letters about the movie saying how much they loved the movie as a child and asking where they could purchase a copy. All year long emails will come into our office in reference to TJ.
