Dear

Ramona

Dear Ramona,

My husband and I just moved to Prater’s Creek from California. We have found this small town to be both idyllic and bucolic, and the townspeople to be quiet gentile.

Ramona, my husband and I are to have a child in a few weeks. We already know it is a boy. We are big fans of the bluegrass artists who have taken what was once hillbilly music and made it a respectable acoustic jazz. We want to name our new son after one of our favorite banjo players. I want "Tony" for Tony Trischka, my husband wants to name him "Bela". How can we solve this problem and not be mad at each other?

"Out of Tune"

Dear "Out of Tune",

Good Lord honey! Give that new baby a real banjo player’s name: "Earl"!

Ramona

Dear Ramona,

I think my husband loves his blue tick hound more than he loves me. I asked him last night if this was true and he said " of course not! Jimbo (his dog) can’t pull a plow or bake biscuits!" What should I do?

"Playing Second

Fiddle to a Hound"

Dear "Second Fiddle"

Bake them biscuits baby, bake 'em good and brown!

Bijou Theater To Hold Film FestivalBijou Theater

The Bijou Theater will be having a film festival to celebrate the screen work of Lon Chaney. It is not known how many movies Chaney made, but he made his mark as an equal of Charlie Chaplain and Buster Keaton of the Golden Silent Era. He was born one of four children to deaf parents and he learned to express himself through facial and body movements.

Classics such as 1919’s Miracle Man, 1920’s The Penalty (where playing a double amputee, Chaney came up with a harness with stumps that he used, pinning his legs behind his back. He was in such pain he could only film a few minutes at a time!), 1923’s Hunch Back of Notre Dame, and 1925’s Phantom of the Opera will be shown.

Mayor Says Prater’s Creek

Couches Can StayCouch

The town of Anderson, SC recently told it’s citizens they had to get rid of the indoor couches they had on their front porches, saying it was "an eyesore, beneath our standards". Responding to the recent action by the nearby city, Prater’s Creek Mayor said the couches that adorn almost every front porch of every home in Prater’s Creek, SC will be allowed to stay. "Nah, we ain’t gonna try and make the folks get rid of their porch furniture" Mayor explained. "I got me one on my front porch where me and the missus sit and pick and sing after supper every night. We sit out there and listen for the Southern Crescent to blow it’s horn. It makes for a fine night."
