It's Time To Wet A Line

Fisherman LogoAs the weather starts to warm up it’s time to dig that tackle box and rod and reel out of the garage or storage room. You weekend anglers need to get a head start on getting ready to go fishing. You don’t won’t to wait until that urge hits you one Saturday morning to get that largemouth bass, and you get out there with your buddy, or son and/or daughter, and find that your tackle box is in a mess and that your line is all tangled and snarled. You’ll be out there on the lake trying to untangle this mess while your buddy is hauling ‘em in or, even worse, your son or daughter is whining “Daddy, when are we gonna get to catch a fish?!”

A good fisherman, or lady, has their tackle box in order, plenty of extra line, swivels, sinkers, etc.  You’re out there to relax and nothing can ruin a good day of fishing like wasting half the day cussing your equipment and lack of preparation.

And make sure you carry some cans of potted meat, Vienna sausages, and saltine crackers.

You parents out there make sure you include your children on some of your fishing trips. Instill in them the joys of fishing and water safety. My daddy always told me and my brother Dorris that “you have to respect the water”. That “it’s beautiful and fun, but it can kill you”. He also told me that about my first wife, but we ain’t gonna talk about her. Talk about a largemouth.

Papa Joe Visits Prater's Creek

Joe Paterno PhotoLegendary Penn State coach, Joe Paterno, came to Prater’s Creek last week on a recruiting trip. We sat down with him on the front porch of Livwright’s General Store and had us a little chat.

Gazette: Howdy Coach! Congratulations on a great season.

Coach Paterno: Ah, thanks, thanks.

Gazette: Coach, what makes you stay in football. You’ve achieved everything a coach could want to do.

Coach Paterno: Ah, jeez! Not that old question again. Because I love it, I really do. You know this store has the greatest atmosphere. Reminds me of the store my grandfather from the old country had.

Gazette: Have you seen any potential recruits here?

Coach Paterno: Ah, jeez! Youse guys grow ‘em big down here don’t cha?! Big strong farm boys. I’ve met their fathers and they’re good people. Make some good liquor don’t they? And their fathers do too! You don’t have to worry about them boys going crazy at college. They’re already used to it.  It’s crazy as College Station the night before the Michigan game every night of the week out at the Drovers’ farm!

Field Hockey Team To Be On Cover Of Magazine

After their inaugural, and undefeated, season, the Prater’s Creek Ladies Field Hockey Team were invited to come to New York City and do a fashion shoot for YM magazine

“It was a blast,” said Terri Toole, the teams leading scorer. “We got to ride in a limo and everything.”

The issue will be out in July. The team hopes to be invited to the Oprah show.
