Irving O. Tarbox

This is the time of year when we are supposed to be filled with love and “good will towards men” but I’m having a little trouble with that today. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who calls the Holocaust a “myth”, just hosted a conference, a “scholarly conference” he called it, to prove just that. Also attending was that paragon of “scholarly” thinking and all things good, former Ku Klux Klan and former Louisiana political hopeful, David Duke. (I just typed Ku Klux Klan for the first time on my computer and spell check didn’t question the spelling! Hmmm, “Unitas” it questions but not Klan. Who’s working at that Microsoft software plant?)

And everyday in my email, along with the Viagra offers, there are letters from relatives and friends telling me, and everybody else on their list, to boycott this company or that company because they gave to some gay organization. “Boycott Wal-Mart” this person’s email tells me. “Boycott Ford Motor Company” that one tells me. I told my cousin she needs to just go ahead and put on the sheet and start burning crosses. Are gays the new minority to hate? If the Internet would have existed forty years ago, would my email have been filled up everyday with letters telling me to boycott a company because they hire blacks or gave a donation to the NAACP?

And speaking of Wal-Mart, they act like they just cured cancer, or whipped terrorism, because they are going back to saying “ Merry Christmas” after switching to the more “politically correct” term “Happy Holidays’ last year. Hey if they thought if would turn more of a profit, they’d be wearing turbans and having “Happy Ramadan” season.

Please, you idiots, just leave me alone. Put all that energy into bringing our troops safely home by next Christmas.

Letters To The Editor

This letter appeared in a recent edition of The Greenville News. I’m really jealous of them over this. How come we don’t get any funny letters like this at this paper? I withheld the name listed as the writer of this masterpiece.

Dear, Editor

I would like to know why the people in South Carolina call this the Bible Belt? They have taken God out of everything. The ACLU is trying to stop people from saying “in Jesus name.” What happened to freedom of speech? What happened to discrimination? Or is that for just a sect few?

Isn’t this why children have no respect for anyone, including their parents? Isn’t this why you read all the time about robbing and killing and stealing? They don’t and never have had the fear of God taught to them. I’m going to pray out loud anytime I want to. He is the one I serve. It is my constitutional right.

Haven’t these people got anything else to worry about? Why aren’t they trying to get something done about these illegal aliens over breaking our laws everyday? Over crowding our schools, hospitals and our tax dollars paying for all those babies they are having here.

Xxxxx Xxxxxx

Dear, Editor

It’s great to live in the upstate of South Cackalacky!!! I’m trying to find that Christmas spirit. I’m thinking of what the Grinch said: Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas….perhaps… means a little bit more.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!
