Erupts
At Checker Tournament Fisticuffs broke out last Saturday afternoon at the 25th Annual Prater’s Creek Checker tournament. The contest had gotten down to the final four participants when heated words were exchanged and the ensuing fight broke out. “Yeah this is the first incident of this sort we’ve had at the tournament in all my years of attending “ tournament director Slim Thompson said. “I think we made a mistake of having the moonshine drinking contest as part of the checker tourney” Baseball Tryouts To Be Held Coach Stumpy Caldwell wants to remind all young men that it is almost time for baseball tryouts again this year. All young men between 14 and 35 that are interested in playing high school baseball need to report to the field behind the high school on February 28. “If you already dropped out of school but still have eligibility left we will work around it” Caldwell said. Big Bill Watson Wins Lick Trading Contest For the fourth year in a row Big Bill Watson has taken the trophy from the Prater’s Creek Trading Licks contest. The contest, which pits two opponents against each other where they take turns hitting each other in the face till one of the gladiators “cry uncle”, brings the winner unparalleled esteem and honor in the community. Watson attributes his toughness to being married to the same woman for sixteen years and to the jug of Grandpa Trundell’s moonshine he downs before every contest.
