OPINION

The Prater's Creek Gazette

3rd Issue Summer 2004 Page #3

Special Editorial From Mayor Allen Jones

Irving O. Tarbox

Citizens of Prater’s Creek, we are standing on the threshold of a new century. It is a time both of reflection an of looking ahead towards new goals. Many folks in the upstate say Prater’s Creek has yet to enter the 20th Century, much less the 21st Century. To these naysayer I say “Hogwash”.

We may not have electricity or indoor plumbing but we have a lot more. We still have women who cook and clean, and who are full time mothers. The men folk still work from sunup to sundown (all except Henry Jenkins and that Drovers bunch).

We may not have industry, but we do have sparkling clean water in our creek. If you want to work at some drab manufacturing plant without ever seeing the sun, you can go over to Clemson and get a job at Devoid/Mengele textile mill.

Our educational system has never been better! Why they tell me that almost twenty out of one hundred students stay in school past the fifth grade. That’s almost half!

And the fishing has never been better!

So let’s bravely enter this new century and help make Prater’s Creek the best it can be!

Mayor Allen Jones

Letters To The Editor

I have been reading about the average SAT scores for all of the other schools in the upstate. But I never did see the scores for students at Prater’s Creek high School. Could you tell me the average scores for Prater’s Creek High kids, and how much they have.

Molly Wagner

You didn’t see those scores because no student from Prater’s Creek High has ever taken the SAT.
