Quilting  Bee

Begins Meeting Again

The Prater's Creek Quilting Bee began meeting again this month at their new location on Terrapin Crossing Road.

It's the first meeting of the quilting bee since the ladies got drunk and burned down the Widow Jenkins place. They had held their meetings at her house for thirty-seven years. Alcohol is now prohibited at the meetings.

"Maybe we'll finally finish a quilt" remarked long time member Bessie Brannon.

Wedding Announcements

Ruby Sue Rogers and Enos Clyde Rogers were married Saturday up there at Prater's Creek Baptist Church.

The bride, daughter of Virgi and Shirleen Rogers, completed third grade at Six Mile Elementary, and now attends Kathy's Beautician School in Central, S.C.

The groom, son of Clyde and Buelah Rogers, almost got his GED, and is now employed by Mengele Textiles as a doffer and soon hopes to move up to fixer.

Their cousin, Bonnie Jean Rogers, was maid of honor. Another cousin, Rudy "Roy" Rogers was best man. The couple's niece Ilene Rogers, who was given a special two-day furlough from the Pickens County Home for Wayward Girls, was the flower girl.

After a honeymoon trip to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, the couple will reside at Pinkies Trailer Court, if their loan comes through.

Third Time On Tracks Not A Charm For Local Man

Lester "Coot" Hayes was found dead on the Southern Railroad tracks, a mile and a half from Brewsters farm, apparently killed by the 11pm. Southern Crescent that travels through Prater's Creek.

Coot has had a history of drinking moonshine and fallin' asleep on the tracks. In 1979, he lost his right leg to the Silver Streak and in 1989, he lost his left leg in another drunken train track accident.

Pickens county Sheriff David Stone said, "Those tracks were like a magnet for 01' Coot, every time he got a little shine in him. We've pulled him off of those tracks more times than I care to remember."
