Quilting Bee
Begins Meeting Again
The Prater's Creek
Quilting Bee began meeting again this month at their new location on
Terrapin Crossing Road.
It's the first
meeting of the quilting bee since the ladies got drunk and burned down the
Widow Jenkins place. They had held their meetings at her house for
thirty-seven years. Alcohol is now prohibited at the meetings.
"Maybe we'll
finally finish a quilt" remarked long time member Bessie Brannon.

Third
Time On Tracks
Not
A Charm For Local Man
Lester "Coot" Hayes
was found dead on the Southern Railroad tracks, a mile and a half from
Brewsters farm, apparently killed by the 11pm. Southern Crescent that travels
through Prater's Creek.
Coot has had a
history of drinking moonshine and fallin' asleep on the tracks. In 1979, he
lost his right leg to the Silver Streak and in 1989, he lost his left leg in
another drunken train track accident.
Pickens county Sheriff David Stone said,
"Those tracks were like a magnet for 01' Coot, every time he got a little
shine in him. We've pulled him off of those tracks more times than I care to
remember." |
